Keeping Banks Out of Real Estate
For five consecutive years REALTORS® have worked to keep banking and commerce separate, preventing banks from offering real estate brokerage and management services.
Protecting the Mortgage Interest Deduction
REALTORS® have led the fight to oppose the replacement of the Mortgage Interest Tax Deduction with likited tax credits. This has helped generate more home sales and ensures homeowners a tax policy that recognizes the importance of homeownership in secuiring the American Dream.
Eliminating Cash Rebates in Tennessee
Government bureaucrats eliminated a rule to allow for cash rebates to be paid to non-licensed individuals in real estate transactions. REALTORS® successfully encouraged the passage of legislation to make cash rebates unlawful and to protect professionalism in the industry. It also created a safeguard for consumers, protecting them from potential mortgage fraud and predatory lending practices.
Protected Property Owners in Georgia
REALTORS® led the fight to enact some of the nation's toughest eminent domain legislation to protect property rights. Also, REALTORS® helped protect business and property owners from being held liable for damages due to gun crimes committeed by others on the property.
Eliminating Delays in Residential Real Estate Transactions
REALTORS® fought to restore the legislative intent to an onerous septic tank law enacted in 2006 that could force real estate agents to search county records for original septic permits for purposes of legal disclosure. REALTORS® secured better legislation, making the path to homeownership more accessible.
Leading Advocacy Efforts to Enact Small Business Health Reforms
Over half of the 46 million uninsured Americans work for small businesses that do not proide health insurance, including 30% of all REALTORS®. We understand the seriousness of the problem and with RPAC support, REALTORS® are leading efforts to correct inequities in the nation's health insurance delivery system and enact rel small business health reforms.
